Our volunteers are the backbone of the program. Without them we could not function.
We work with local schools, businesses, churches and 4-H clubs. They help
recruit volunteers of all ages and skill levels. Some are horse people, some are not.
The common thread is that they all love the people we work
with and want to make
a difference in someone else's life.
And what a difference they make. We invite you to come to a session and see for
yourself the miracles that can happen with therapeutic riding.
VOLUNTEERS:
Paula White
Paula has been volunteering with Heart's Desire for 3 years. She has been married to Gary White for 29 years and has two grown boys, Chris and Kevin. This year they added a daughter named Misty when she married her son Kevin.
"I love my time with Heart's Desire. The staff and volunteers are the best you will find anywhere."
Jeff Farmer
Jeff was a Surveyor for a large Fiber Optics company when he met Miki (now Miki Farmer). They married and moved back to his ranch in Mississippi. A short time later, Jeff, who had always cared for his own horses since he was 8, decided to become a Farrier and proceeded to go to school. Upon his graduation, they started what is now a very successful business in his home state. Miki started volunteering with Heart's Desire and convinced Jeff to join her and he now donates his services as the Heart's Desire Farrier. They both donate their talents and help in countless ways.
"We love helping people and what a better way than to donate our time and efforts than to such a worthwhile cause. The children, parents, staff and all the other volunteers are outstanding and a pleasure to know and work with. We have learned a lot and feel we get a lot more from being involved with Heart's Desire than we give."
Hanna Gilbert
Hanna Gilbert came to volunteer with us about a year ago. Since her 1st day, Hannah has proven herself to be dependable and trustworthy. At the tender age of 13, she has been limited to activities outside of the arena, but this has not made her any less valuable. She is head groom on Fridays and maintains structured appointments by making sure horses are tacked and ready for the clients to begin their sessions. If there is anything to do that is extra, without being asked, she will always be silently doing her part. Hannah will be 14 next year and we are all looking forward to her help with side walking and leading. She is a special girl with a talent for handling horses, and a unique way of lending a hand right when it is needed. Rarely seen or heard, but always present. Thank you doing a wonderful job & being such a needed part of our team.
Courtney Law
Courtney attends Olive Branch High School as a senior, she has volunteered with the school program since it came into existence. She has let us use her Arabian, Champ during our last term also. As a experienced horsewoman she has brought dedication to the program and is an exemplementry young lady. She is also a dedicated 4-H member and brought help and knowledge to anyone with inquiries. Quiet and grounded, Courtney has displayed a love for this program and encouraged others to join in. She has also helped as a buddy with the special education classes at her school who also participate. We have made milestones in our program thanks to her and Champ, our program wouldn't have been quite as good with the help of Courtney.
